Osiris 1/72

The FV430 series of tracked vehicles originally entered service in 1962 and production ceased in 1972. It is still very widely used by the British Army in a range of variants.

This particular variant, the FV434  is no longer widely used (although there are some), but was fitted with an open cargo deck and 3 ton HIAB crane to allow maintenance procedures such as engine changes of Chieftain tanks to be undertaken in the field.

The current Challenger 2 powerpack is too heavy to be lifted by the FV434, in which role it has been replaced by the CRRARV.

The Osiris FV434 3D printed kit

This is another of Osiris’ superb scaleable 3D printed kits. As with the others I have built, the level of detail is remarkable.  There are only a few parts to assemble, with the main hull, two track assemblies, hatches, plus a number of small detail parts and a choice of extended or stowed cranes.  This one is in 1/72 scale, but Osiris will print in a range of scales up to at least 1/48.

Comparing it with my older Cromwell Models resin kit shows a number of small differences, plus the 3D printed one simply seems a little sharper in detail.   Decals (all 4 of them) are home printed.

Foxhound LPPV (Ocelot)

3 SCOTS, The Black Watch, Royal Regiment of Scotland - British Army, 2025

Osiris 1/72

The Foxhound Light Protected Patrol Vehicle was procured by the UK MOD as an Urgent Operational Requirement (UOR) in 2010 to replace the infamous “Snatch” Landrover, whose limited levels of armour protection had resulted in an unacceptable level of casualties in Iraq.   The vehicles first saw service in Afghanistan in 2012.

Based around the Force Protection “Ocelot” LPPV design, the UK variant was renamed to align with other UK armoured vehicles.  Built by a consortium of General Dynamics UK, Ricardo Engineering Consultancy and Thales UK,  it features a UK MOD specific internal systems architecture that enables connection and operation of a wide range of UK systems.  The British Army has received 400 vehicles, with some now undergoing updates to become command vehicles and other specialist roles.

The Osiris Foxhound 3D printed kit

This Osiris scaleable 3D printed kit is just as superb as the FV434 above, although its smaller size results in slightly less detail.  It requires no assembly although I added a water bottle to the rear door area and 4 rucksacs to the sides (as seen in many photographs.   Once again, the decals are home printed.
