Pulling a Flanker: Not an impromptu airshow, but an explicit demonstration that this QRA, is armed and not very happy. Shortly after I took this photograph in September 1987 just north of Murmansk, one of these aircraft intercepted a Norwegian P-3 Orion patrolling the Norwegian EEZ. The Su-27 pulled close alongside the Orion, but misjudged his distance and impacted the Orion's airscrew. Both aircraft were forced to make emergency landings; thankfully no lives were lost.
